Mexico is well known for its beaches and tequila, and a very popular spot for vacationers. Travellers who frequent Mexico have most likely visited Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cabo and Tulum. This under the radar best-kept secret, Isla Holbox, is the island paradise just lying off the northern coastline of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Isla Holbox is part of Mexico’s largest ecological reserve. It is one of the best places in the world to swim with shale sharks. It is home to incredible marine life and from June through September you can spot whale sharks swimming in the Gulf’s waters. Visitors even have the option to take a sea safari and watch them feed.
